FAQs - Frquently Asked Questions

What is a community network?

The use of networking technologies by, and for, a local community becomes a Community Network.

What type of discounts can be offered through a Community Network versus a standard wire/fiber-optic network?

Not having to deal with logistics involved on a wired network (either cable or fiber) allows us to be more flexible and offer lower prices, without sacrificing the quality and technology to be used.

What type of equipment do I need in order to be able to connect to the Community Network?

You will need a receiver/antenna that will allow our signal to be delivered to your house.

What is the cost of the equipment so I can connect to the Community Network?

A part of the cost of the equipment will be credited to you for future services. however, prices of services vary depending of what you choose to use. Nevertheless, we assure you that our rates are definitely lower and our policies as a community network more flexible.

Are there any pre-order deals for the first homeowners that get this system?

Buying the hardware before hand can mean extra benefits for you. We are certainly on your side, and we will make sure your get the best bang for your buck.

What’s the size of the antenna needed for connection to the Community Network?

The hardware needed in your house, to join our network, is a N.L.O.S. station. This device measures approximately 5.47 in h x 1.22 in d x 3.15 in w , and it has to be located somewhere inside your house.

How does the antenna work to provide me with services from BLV Solutions?

The antenna will be the bridge that will connect the device connected in your house with our network.

What is a NLOS antenna?

N.L.O.S stands for No Line Of Sight. The technology used by our system, doesn’t require for the antennas to see each other (as in Line Of Sight technology). This avoids the installing of long cables from the top of your house roof to the utility room. In our case, no more than 4 feet of cable will be needed to connect the station to your distribution panel in your utility room.

The cable from the antenna to my distribution panel, would it be visible? How would that affect the aesthetic of our house?

Please keep in mind that this isn’t any magic solution. In Loreto Bay, your houses where designed to receive services that are delivered from the underground only, therefore your house doesn’t have any preparation for either service that might need the use of an antenna (though big or small). There is however, the need for a piece of cable that in most cases will not exceed the 4 feet in length, as approached on the previous point.

How does the system Works with the security department?

Our system will be sending a text Message to Security Department. The message will be sent to the numbers provided by security. More than one number to report to can be programmed.

My current security system, will it keep working as it was working up to today?

Your security system will keep working the same way it has been doing it, even after the change is made.

Do I have to change any password(s) already set up on our system?

You do not have to change absolutely any password. Not only all the features of your alarm system remain, but also the codes and/or passwords.

How does the Internet Service Work?

The internet service we are offering as an initial phase is a 2 MB service. It is broadcasted through our network wirelessly to the device installed in your house, then distributed throughout your house using the same wiring you currently have.

Do I have to have a wireless connection to the computer or would I be able to use through the actual cable I use at home?

You do not have to connect your computer any different to the way you use it now. We will deliver our service wirelessly (but encrypted for security reasons) to your house. Once the signal gets to your house, it is distributed as it is being done so today. Your wireless routers will remain connected and in use (if you have them) and your Ethernet jacks at home will be ready to use again. No changes will be noticed in your house, as far as the way the service is used.

What’s the cost of the Internet Service? And what kind of packages will be available?

We will not be charging the internet service as such, since we are trying to provide a community service, but we will charge you for the use of the infrastructure. The cost of using the infrastructure with access to internet, can be seen on our next chart, but we can tell you this: Weekly and Monthly use will be available. On our second phase, we are planning to upgrade the bandwidth to a higher speed based on the amount of users.

How come you can offer phone service per month or per week?

We know many of you don’t spend too many weeks, but you certainly would like to be able to have a phone (if that was the case). As Owners and administrators of the community network, we decide when, how and for how long you get your services…
